What began as a single album of children’s music in 1984 has grown into a full-time business responsible for bringing joy to tens of thousands of children and parents each year.Parachute Express, known throughout the world as one of the premiere entertainers of children between the ages of one and ten years old, has been together for twenty-five years. Their blend of musical styles, engaging stage show and unique chemistry, has allowed Donny, Stephen and Janice to shine out in the crowded field of family entertainment.

The group is proud to share with you their 2 newest albums, “Gymbo’s Play and Pretend Favorites” and “It’s a Gymboree Party” which just won the 2008 NAPPA Gold Award (National Association of Parenting Publications of America). Before that, their 10th album, “Don’t Blink” garnered the prestigous Parents Choice Gold Award as well as the NAPPA Gold Award and the Toy of the Year award from Creative Child Magazine. You can also hear Parachute Express sing the theme song of the well known PBS’s animated cartoon, “Jay Jay The Jet Plane” !

There’s been no looking back. Janice has studied and performed music ever since. Although she is classically trained, Janice has always performed contemporary music.

Having met Stephen soon after her arrival in Los Angeles, Janice began performing with him almost immediately. When Stephen and Donny discussed forming Parachute Express, Janice was a natural inclusion. Her ability to play a multitude of instruments has added great depth to their style and her harmonies help create the group’s signature sound.

Janice’s creativity doesn’t stop with music. Among other things, Janice is the person responsible for the wild wardrobe the group wears on-stage. Remember this the next time you are looking at your favorite snapshot of the group and are wondering where in the world they got their clothes. It is another one of Janice’s many contributions.

When not traveling with Parachute Express, or creating music, Janice spends her time with her husband, Bill Lindsay, son, Cooper and dogs, Rosie, Buster. Nipsie and Tucker, and cats, Dobson and Chase.

Stephen was a child actor starring in films, television and commercials and has played music since he was a teen. He now has two sons, Adam and Zachary. Formerly a recording artist on RCA Records, it was Donny who first approached Stephen to discuss children’s music. Stephen, being a new father, was highly interested and it hasn’t waned since.

Although nothing in the world is more special to Stephen then his own children, his love of all children is obvious to anyone who has ever seen a Parachute Express concert. If you’ve ever seen him perform “Who’s Got A Hug?”, you’ll know what a caring individual he is. And if you’ve seen the rest of the show, you’ll know the many other sides of Stephen as well. He is musical, funny, happy and truly enjoys communicating with all those around him.

Supported by the love of his talented wife, Althea, Stephen’s energy for creating music knows no bounds. In those rare moments when Parachute Express does not need him, Stephen produces many other musical projects. It seems that he is always running off to a recording studio, auditioning talent or finishing a mix before a deadline. He has written music and penned the theme song for the popular animated cartoon show, “Jay Jay The Jet Plane” which is performed by…You quessed it, PARACHUTE EXPRESS. One look at Stephen’s notebook and it is obvious how many ideas are percolating in his head. Stephen’s newest claim to fame is that of his musical IT CAME FROM BEYOND, winner of an Ovation Award (Tonys in Los Angeles), and soon to become a film.

Stephen’s dream is to bring music to children all over the world and, if he had his way, to meet each and every one of them.

While studying Child Development at UC-Santa Cruz, Donny found what was to become his life’s work. It wasn’t long after graduating that Donny, along with his wonderful wife Adrian, founded one of the original Gymboree Play Program sites. His program grew to include several more sites and has won more awards than can fit on a wall.

Donny’s desire to create a musical base for his programs is what led to the creation of Parachute Express. As he explains it, “Stephen was my neighbor at the time. One day, while we were taking out the trash, we started talking. I knew Stephen was a musician and I told him about my dreams. One thing led to another and we recorded ‘Shakin It’, the first Parachute Express album.” Many albums later, they are still plugging away.

Despite all of his involvement with Parachute Express and Gymboree, Donny has always found the time for his favorite job, “Dad.” He is especially proud of his two children, Rachel and Joey. And he should be!
